On May 1 Kennedy, Archer & Harray Applauds Law Day

Each May, the Bar Association observes Law Day to commemorate the rule of law and the judiciary and its place in American society.

The idea of a national Law Day was conceived in 1957 by American Bar Association President Charles Rhynes. In 1958 President Dwight D.Eisenhower, established the first Law Day, and in 1961 the U.S. Congress issued a joint resolution making May 1 the official Law Day.

This year’s American Bar Association Law Day theme is “No Courts, No Justice, No Freedom.”  “I cannot think of a more relevant theme given today’s climate,” says Nolan Kennedy, partner at Kennedy, Archer & Harray, “it certainly gives us an opportunity to give special recognition to our courts, and understand their position as keepers of justice and the rights of the American people,” he continued.

“Commerce would grind to a halt if businesses could not rely on the courts to enforce contracts and settle disputes,” notes partner, Dan Archer, Kennedy, Archer & Harray. He continues, “Courts facilitate commerce by providing certainty and predictability to businesses both large and small. Open and accessible courts are fundamental to our way of life. In every aspect of our lives as individuals and a society, we turn to the courts to provide us with a fair and impartial forum to reach a just result.”

The quality of justice is not only the concern of lawyers and judges. It affects the health and well-being of the entire community. Even if you have never been inside a courtroom, you benefit from what happens there every day to ensure justice for all. “That courtroom must be open to validate and protect contracts for business. That courtroom must be open to keep the wheels of justice turning. That courtroom must be open to defend our individual rights and to prove again and again that we continue to be a free society.” American Bar Association President Wm. T. (Bill) Robinson III
