Monterey Peninsula College is celebrating its 65th Anniversary with an Open House on Saturday, October 6, 2012.  The campus-wide Open House will be from 11:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m. A broad range of MPC departments will provide lectures, demonstrations and performances scheduled throughout the Open House allowing adults and children to experience exciting elements of the college.

MPC’s 65th Anniversary is a free event, with free parking. Some of the ongoing activities include: live music, bounce houses, food, face painting and prize drawings including football ticket giveaways for the MPC game vs. West Valley. The Gentrain program invites history lovers to a lecture. The Music Department is bringing in their Jazz Band. The MPC Bookstore, Library and Child Development Center will be open with tours, hands on activities, popcorn and exhibits.

All college departments are open for your visit. Explore a mini-class or lecture: make a sunprint – find a nature object, add sun and the right paper, and take home a beautiful cyanotype or “sunprint”! In Computer Science visitors will see how many rocks they can visit on ‘Mars’ as they plan and execute their robot’s command sequence, as they are “Roving on Mars”. See a short film at the Social Sciences Film Festival. The Theatre costume shop will be open, while discussing “The Evolution of a Fantasy Costume” (just in time for Halloween). Check out the underwater robots, see a kid’s magic show in Chemistry, explore the science of speed in the Auto Tech, find out what’s cooking in the Hospitality Program, and feel the living marine life in Biology!

Information on continuing education, how to enroll in college, financial aid, internships, and counseling services involving transfers, graduation, and certificate requirements are offered. Both the school of nursing and the fire academy (fire truck included) will be opening their doors and sharing the exciting things that are going on. The Veteran’s Mobile Van is on campus for Veterans and their families.

“We want to be more than the college on the hill,” states Dr. Doug Garrison, Superintendent/President of Monterey Peninsula College, “we want this event to throw our doors open and have a celebration showing all the amazing things that are going on at MPC. This campus wide effort with Faculty, Staff, Associated Students, Foundation, Alumni Association, and the public, is designed to showcase and demonstrate what it means to be MPC.”

A full line up of scheduled activities will be available on the day of the event. For more information visit: and
